Holmbury Hill Forestry Update

As regular riders will have noticed The Hurtwood, on the North side of Holmbury Hill to the East of Radnor Road and to the West of Telegraph, is taking quite a battering from forestry operations at the moment.

Trails such as the lower section of Deer Trail, I Should Coco and Son of Coco should be avoided for the time being. We'll post an update when the situation changes and the trails re-open.

Cycleworks Demo Day - 14th March 2010 - Holmbury St Mary

If you like to meet members of our guiding team in person we will be attending the next Cycleworks Demo Day on the 14th of March in Holmbury St Mary in the heart of The Surrey Hills.

There will be plenty of demo bikes from the likes of Orange Bikes, Whyte Bikes, Lapierre Bikes and Specialized Bikes to take for a quick spin around Holmbury Hill, but demand will be high, so it's worth booking your preferred steed in advance of the day by emailing leatherhead@cycleworks.co.uk.

Surrey Hills Night Rides

As the days get longer and the temperature gets warmer, more and more people can be seen out enjoying the trails. To take advantage of the improving conditions we have added a series of mid-week evening guided rides to our ride schedule.

If you haven't got a good night light, we have a supply of the excellent 700 lumen Exposure Diablo lights available to hire for just £10.00 a session.

If you've never tried night riding before, our friends over at Astounding Adventures MTB skills coaching may be able to help. Their three hour Night Riding Apprenticeship course will teach you the basics of riding at night including:

Night riding clothing & equipment
Planning a evening/night ride
Navigating at night
Group management at night
Dealing with emergencies

Barry Knows Better

Great news for singletrack fans is the re-opening of the superb Barry Knows Best trail on Holmbury Hill in The Surrey Hills.

This classic trail had been closed whilst extensive work was carried our on the final section to redirect and extend the trail. The work was organised by Mark Reynolds of VC Godalming with the help of Redlands Trails, The Hurtwood Trust and money from The Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Summer Lightning Partial Closure

Forestry Commission contractors have fenced off the sections of Summer Lightning in preparation for the planting of new saplings next year.

The old line has been reopened by the team at Redlands Trails to guide riders towards the Tramway which, for now, is the temporary replacement for the last two sections.

No news yet on when the sections will be re-opened.

Holmbury Hill Forestry Update

Felling work has now started on Holmbury Hill, the attached map shows the current working area. Signs have been erected to show the area as well. For your own safety please keep at least 100 metres from any machinery.

Trails most likely to be effected are I Should Coco and Son of Coco.

Hopefully the machines will not be around for long so normal riding can recommence.
