Holmbury Hill & Pitch Hill Singletrack

The views from Holmbury Hill are unsurpassed in Surrey; on a sunny day you can see all the way back to The City of London and even see the sea through the Shoreham gap in the South Downs.

It's easy to see why people say Eric Clapton and George Harrison were inspired to write 'Here Comes the Sun' sitting on Holmbury hilltop. Sadly, it's just an urban legend.

Holmbury Hill and Pitch Hill, known collectively as The Hurtwood, are known for their abundant billberry. These blueberry like fruits are known locally as 'Hurts' hence the name of the woods.

The route

The quality of the trails here has to be seen to be believed; even after rain the trails dry out in only a few hours.

There are so many great ways to tackle the singletrack through these woods, no two rides need ever be the same. We'll of course take in some classics like Barry Know's Best and Yoghurt Pots, but there'll plenty of time for a quick visit to Peaslake Village Stores for the obligatory cheese straw & cup of tea.

Singletrack Rides usually last 3-3½ hours.

The singletracks

The ride will consist of a combination of the following singletracks:

Holmbury Hill

Pitch Hill

Winterfold Woods

Experience & fitness

We try to match each ride to the experience and fitness of the people who book.

Please be aware that the singletrack on this ride has an intermediate to difficult rating. However, there are always diversions available to avoid to most difficult drops and jumps and we'll be there to advise you of what to expect around the next corner.

If this doesn't sound like your cup of tea, please consider trying one of our XC Rides which are less technically difficult (and much longer in duration).

Equipment required

You will need the following equipment

You won't need to carry tools, a trailside repair kit or a first aid kit as your guide will have all of this.
